From the reverse: "One of the builders & captain of the steamer Vermont, the first steamboat on Lake Champlain (1809-1815) & the second to be regularly operated in the world. A reproduction of a painting in miniature on a broach in possession of Miss Anna Saxe, a great granddaughter, of Chazy, N.Y. & taken at her summer home at Saxe's Landing, or Chazy Landing, on Lake Champlain, on Jul 27, 1928."
